A rectangular field has a path 5 m wide running round it. If the rectangle formed by the path and the field is 200 m x 60 m, find (1) the area of the path, and (ii) the cost of constructing the path at 15 per m of the path.​

  • Length of field = 200 m
  • Breadth of field = 60 m
  • width of path = 5 m

  • Path forme a new rectangle
  • Length = 200 + 10 = 210 m
  • Breadth = 60 + 10 = 70 m

  • Area of bigger rectangle = 210 ×70
  • Area of bigger rectangle = 14700 m²

  • Area of field = 200×60
  • Area of field = 12000 m²

  • 1 Area of path = 14700 - 12000
  • Area of path = 2700 m²

  • 2 Cost of construction = 15 per m²
  • Cost of 2700 m² = 2700 × 15 = 40500
