A rectangular field is 30m in length and 22m in width. Two mutually perpendicular roads, each 2.5m wide, are drawn inside the field so that one road is parallel to the length of the field and the other road is parallel to its width.Calculate the area of the cross roads.

Road 1 has length 30m and width 2.5m
Road 2 had length 22m and width 2.5m
The common area for the crossroads = 2.5x2.5 m²

Area of the crossroads = 30x2.5 + 22x2.5 - 2.5x2.5
                                         = 123.75m²

Solution:-

Area of the rectangle ABCD (1st Road) = 22*2.5
= 55 sq
Area of the rectangle EFGH (2nd Road) = 30*2.5 = 75 sq m
Area of the rectangle IJKL (Joint part where these two roads meet) = 2.5*2.5
= 6.25 sq m
Area of the cross roads = Area of the rectangle ABCD + Area of the rectangle EFGH - Area of the rectangle IJKL
= 55 + 75 - 6.25
= 130 - 6.25
Area of the cross roads = 123.75 sq m
