To find :

  We have to find the area of the road of 4 m width which is constructed outside the rectangular field of 80 m length and 60 m width.

Answer :

       Area of the road is 1184 m²

Step by step solution :

Step 1 (Area of the field)

Length of the field, l = 80 m

Width of the field, b = 60 m

Area of the field

 = length × width

 = 80 × 60 m²

 = 4800 m²

Step 2 (Area of the whole plot)

Length of the field together with the road

  = 80 + (2 × 4) = 88 m

Width of the field together with the road

  = 60 + (2 × 4) = 68 m

So, the area of the field together with the road

  = 88 × 68 m² = 5984 m²

Step 3 (Area of the road)

Therefore, the area of the road

= Area of the field together with the road - Area of the field

  = 5984 - 4800 m²

     = 1184 m²

Anwer: 1184m^2

Correct answer: 1184m^2

Please check the attachments for answer.

I have attached 3 attachments to my answer.

I have solved question in 3 steps. there are 3 independent images for independent step.

1st step: Area of field

=> L × B

=> 80 × 60m^2

=>. 4800m^2

2nd step: Length and width of field with road

=> 88m and 68m

3rd step: Area

=> 88 × 68m^2

=> 5984m^2

Area of filed with road - Area of road

=> 5984 - 4000m^2

=> 1184 m^2
