A rectangular garden 10m by 16m is to be surrounded by a concrete walk of uniform width. Given that area of the walk is 120 square metres, assuming the width of the walk to be x,dorm an equation in x and solve it to find the value of x

hkdas57: Please help me
hkdas57: Thanks a ton.
hkdas57: But the value of x is 2.
AveragePerson: Sorry caculation error equation is correct
AveragePerson: x^2+13x-30 = 0 is the equation

10
(10+2x)(16+2x)-160 = 120
x^2+13x-30 = 0
x= 2 m

hkdas57: Thanks . Now the answer is correct

Consider ABCD as a rectangular garden

Length = 10 m

Breadth = 16 m

So the area of ABCD = l × b

Substituting the values

= 10 × 16

= 160 m2

Consider x m as the width of the walk

Length of rectangular garden PQRS = 10 – x – x = (10 – 2x) m

Breadth of rectangular garden PQRS = 16 – x – x = (16 – 2x) m
