The area of the garden that is grassed is 310 m^2.

  • Given,
  • A rectangular garden of dimension = 20 × 17 m
  • Implies that, the length of the rectangular garden = 20 m
  • The width of the rectangular garden = 17 m
  • The walker's path along the boundary of the garden is of width (un-grassed) = 1.5 m.
  • The new width of the garden is = 17 - 1.5 = 15.5 m
  • The area of the rectangle is  = l × b
  • = 20 × 15.5 = 310 m^2
