A rectangular hall 20 m long and 15 m broad is surrounded by a path of uniform width of 2.5m. Find the area of the path(in sq. m).
Answers
Given,
length of the hall = 20 metres
breadth of the hall = 15 metres
width of the path = 2.5 metres
To find,
The area of the path.
Solution,
We can easily solve this mathematical problem by subtracting the area of hall from the total area of the hall and the path.
Area of path = (Area of hall + Area of path) - Area of hall
Now,
Area of the hall
= Length × Breadth
= 20×15
= 300 m²
Length of the hall with the path = 20+(2.5×2) = 20+5 = 25 metres
Breadth of the hall with the path = 15+(2.5×2) = 15+5 = 20 metres
(We added the width of the path for twice because this width is added on both sides of the two dimensions of the hall.)
Area of the hall with the path = (25×20) = 500 m²
Area of the path = (500-300) = 200 m²
Hence, the area of the path is 200 m².
