A rectangular lot 50 feet by 100 feet is surrounded on all sides by a concrete walk 5 feet wide. Find the number of square feet in the surface of the walk.

Breadth of rectangular plot = 100 feet

we are given that rectangular Plot is surrounded on all sides by a concrete walk 5 feet wide.

Outer length = 50+(5+5)=60 feet

Outer Breadth = 100+(5+5) =110 feet

Area of path = Outer area - Inner area

                     = (110 \times 60)-(100 \times 50)

                     = 1600 ft^2

Hence the area of the path is  1600 ft^2
