Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

A rectangular piece of cardboard has a width of x and a length of y.

When 15 centimeters is trimmed from the width and 25 centimeters is trimmed from the length

To find:-

Expressions represents perimeter,area .

which expressions describe the remaining pieceof cardboard?

Solution:-

Length of the rectangular piece of cardboard=(l)=y cm

Breadth of the rectangular piece of cardboard=(b)=x cm

Perimeter of the rectangular cardboard

=2(l+b) units

=2(y+x) cm=2(x+y) cm

Area of the rectangular card board=lb sq.units

=>A=yx sq.cm=xy sq.cm

If 15cm are trimmed from width then the width would be ( x -15) cm

If 25 cm are trimmed from the length then the length would be ( y - 25) cm

1) Perimeter of a rectangle=2(l+b) units

=>P=2(y-25+x-15) cm

=>P=2(x + y- 40) cm

or It can be written as

P=2(x-15)+2(y-25) cm

2)Area of the rectangular piece of cardboard after trimming =(A)=lb sq.units

=>A=(y-15)(x-25) sq.cm

=>A= (x -25)(y - 15) sq.cm
