A rectangular piece of land measures 60m by 40m. There are 2 square flower beds on land each of length 10m. The rest of the land is to be paved with tiles of dimensions 11cm by 8cm. How many such tiles are needed

b=40cm

area of rest of land

=area of rectangular field-area of two square follower beds

 = l \times b  -  2 \times  {side}^{2}

 = 60 \times 40 - 2 \times  {10}^{2}

 = 2400 = 2 \times 100

 = 2400 - 200

 = 2200 \:  {m}^{2}

number of tiles needed

 =  \frac{area \: of \: restof \: land \:}{area \: of \: one \: tile}

 =  \frac{2200}{l \times b}

  = \frac{2200}{11 \times 8}

 =  \frac{2200}{88}
