A rectangular pontoon is 5m long,3m wide and 1.20m high.The depth of

immersion of the pontoon is 0.80m in sea water. If the centre ofbgravity is0.6m

above the bottom of the pontoon, determine the meta-centric height. The density

for sea water = 1025kg/m3.

Answer:

Explanation:

BG=Centre of pontoon – Centre of immersed portion=0.6-0.4=0.2

Metacentric height=I/∀ -BG

I=bd³/12 = 5*3³/12 (moment of inertia of rectangle along centre)

∀=3*0.8*5=12m^{3}(volume of immersed part of rectangular pontoon)

Metacentric height=0.7375m.
