a rectangular sheet of paper of dimensions 44cm×18cm is rolled along its lenght to form a cylinder. Find the total surface area of a cylinder.

Hi,

I hope you understand the question with the help of the following diagram



Let the radius be r

we know that the length of the sheet = circumference of the circle

and height of the cylinder = 18cm

44 = 2



r
2 * 22/7 r = 44

r = (44*7) / (22*2)

r = 7cm

volume of cylinder =

=22/7 * 7*7 * 18

= 2772 cm3

The volume of the cylinder so formed is 2772 cm3

length of the sheet = circumference of cylinder base
2*pi*r=44cm
2*22/7*r=44
r=(44*7)/(2*22)
r=7cm
therefore
cylinder radius=r=7cm
height of the cylinder=breadth of the rectangle
h=18cm
volume of the cylinder =pi*r^2*h
=22/7*7*7*18
=22*7*18
=2772cm^3
