\mathfrak{\large{\underline{\underline{Given:-}}}}

Length of rectangular track = 40 m

Breadth of rectangular track = 30 m

\mathfrak{\large{\underline{\underline{To find :-}}}}

Distance travelled by man = ?

Displacement by man = ?

\mathfrak{\large{\underline{\underline{Solution:-}}}}

Since, man is started from one corner and reaches the opposite corner .

Let ABCD be the rectangle given in attachment.

AB = DC = 40 m

AD = BC = 30 m

Let the man start from corner d and move to corner B.

Then distance travelled by man = AD + AB

= 30 + 40

= 70 m.

Displacement of man is given by diagonal of rectangle.

Displacement of man = \bold{DB =  \sqrt{ {(DA) }^{2}  +  {(AB) }^{2} } }

\implies \bold{DB= \sqrt{ {30}^{2}  +  {40}^{2} }  }

\implies \bold{DB = \sqrt{2500}  }

\implies \bold{DB = 50 m}

hence, displacement of man is 50m.
