Given :  A retailer gives three successive discounts of 10%, 15%, and 10% on the marked price of an article of Rs.1000 and also giving another option of availing two successive discounts of 20% and 10%.

To Find :  the difference in the selling price under these two options after discount,

Solution:

A retailer gives three successive discounts of 10%, 15%, and 10% on the marked price of an article of Rs.1000

Selling Price after 3 Successive discounts  =  1000 * ( 1 - 10/100)(1 - 15/100)(1 - 10/100)

= 1000 (0.9)(0.85)(0.9)

= 810 (0.85)

= 688.5  Rs

Selling Price after  two successive discounts of 20% and 10%.

= 1000 ( 1 - 20/100) ( 1 - 10/100)

= 1000 (0.8)(0.9)

= 720     Rs

difference in the selling price under these two options after discount

= 720 - 688.5

=  Rs 31.5

difference in the selling price under these two options after discount, = Rs 31.5
