Let ABC be the triangle right angled at B.

then BC=12cm and AC=13cm

By applying Pythagoras theoram,

${AC}^{2}={BC}^{2}+ {AB}^{2}$

(13x13)= (12x12)+(AB x AB)

169=144+(AB x AB)

(AB x AB)=169 - 144

(AB x AB)= 25

AB=√25

AB=5 cms
