A Rigid unform rod of mass M and length L is resting on a smooth horizontal table. Two marbles each of mass m
and travelling with uniform speed V collide with two ends of the rod simultaneously and inelastically as
M
shown the marbles get struck to the rod after the collision and continue to move with the rod. If m=M÷6 then

Answer:

Final speed of the system is v/4

Explanation:

As we know that there is no external force on the system of rod + masses

so here we can use momentum conservation for this system

So we can say

initial momentum = final momentum

now we have

P_i = \frac{M}{6} v + \frac{M}{6} v

now for final momentum we have

P_f = (M + \frac{M}{6} + \frac{M}{6}) v_f

now from momentum conservation equation we have

\frac{Mv}{3} = \frac{4M}{3} v_f

v_f = \frac{v}{4}
