it is because there is a lot of fuel required to move it up as a result a lot of upthrust is created moving it upward n as it goes upward the effect of gravity reduces to 0

The escape velocity is at the rate of 9.8 m/sec2.

This means that if any object needs to escape from the earth's gravity, it has to apply force that is enough to increase it's velocity more than that of gravity.

And a rocket fired upwards has  a velocity more than 9.8m/sec2.

Thus, a rocket fired upwards goes into space despite the gravitational pull of the earth .
