Answer: Headland

Near each coastline, there is a rocky point of land which usually widens up to the sea. Such land is called a headland or simply a head. Besides headlands, bays are also found on the same coastlines. They form a well-determined coastline which is also used as a border between two countries sometimes. The sediments are deposited near the coastal lines leading to erosion of the headlands which eventually straightens the coastal lines and the process of making bays and new headlands start again.

A list of some notable headlands is

  • Cape-Vert, Senegal
  • Cape Blanc, Mauritania, Africa
  • Cape Corrientes, Mozambique
  • Beirut, Lebanon
  • Indira-Point, Andaman and Nicobar Islands
  • Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, India
  • Cap Gris Nez, France
  • Dungeness, England
