Given :

Length of rod - 25 cm

Refractive index of liquid - 5/3

To Find : Apparent length of rod.

Solution:

We can relate refractive index, apparent and real length of the rod by using this formula,

meu = real length / apparent length.

where meu is refractive index.

Equating the formulas,

5/3 = 25/apparent length

Apparent length = 15 cm.

Hence, the length of the rod from outside the beaker is 15 cm.
