a room 12.5m long and 10.5m wide is surrounded by a verandah 2m wide all around it. find the area occupied by the verandah.

given:-

length of the room=12.5m

breadth of the room=10.5m

area of the room=l×b

=12.5×10.5

=131.25m²

length of the verandah=12.5+2+2

=12.5+4

=16.5m

breadth of the verandah=10.5+2+2

=10.5+4

=14.5m

area=l×b

=16.5×14.5

=239.25m²

area of the verandah=239.25-131.25

=108m²

Length of room-12.5m

Breadth of room-10.5m

Area-12.5×10.5

=131.25m²

After adding the length of verandah:

=12.5+2+2

=16.5m

After adding the width of verandah:

=10.5+2+2

=14.5m

Area of verandah=16.5×14.5

=239.25m²

Area occupied by the verandah=239.25-131.25

=108m²
