A room has a floor measuring 15 m by 8m . it has to be covered with tiles of size 50 cm by 25 cm .how many tiles are required? If a carpet is laid on the floor so that a space of 1.5 m is left around the edges of floor, what fraction of the floor is uncovered?

NO. OF TILES
= AREA OF FLOOR ÷ AREA OF 1 TITLE

= (15 M × 8 M) ÷( 50CM × 25 CM )

=( 1500CM × 800CM ) ÷ (50CM × 25 CM)

= 1200000÷1250

=960 titles

length of carpet = 15 -1.5 -1.5 = 12 m

breadth of carpet = 8 -1.5 -1.5= 5 m

so area of carpet = 12×5 = 60 m2

so uncovered floor = 15×8 - 60
= 120 - 60 = 60m2

SO FRACTION OF FLOOR UNCOVERED

= 60/120

= 1/2
