a room is 9.5m long 7.5m broad and 2.5m high it has one door of dimensions 2m *3m and two windows each of the dimensions 3.5 *2m.find the cost of painting the four walls at RS 5.60 per square metre.

Area of four walls =2(l+b) *h
Area of four walls= 2(9.5+7.5)*2.5
Area of four walls=5*17=85m²

Area of doar =2*3=6m²
Area of two windows =2(3.5*2)= 2*7=14m²

AREA of walls for painting=85-6-14=65m²

Cost of painting =65*5.60=rs364

Cost of painting the 4 walls = Rs 364

Solution:

Length of the room = 9.5 m

Breadth of the room = 7.5 m

Height of the room = 2.5 m

Surface area of the room = 2(length + breadth) × height

                                          = 2(9.5 + 7.5) × 2.5

                                          = 2(17) × 2.5

                                          = 85

Surface area of the room = 85 m²

Area of the door = 2 m × 3 m

Area of the door = 6 m²

Area of the window = 3.5 × 2 m

                                 = 7 m²

Area of 2 windows = 7 m² × 2

Area of 2 windows  = 14 m²

Area of painting = 85 m² – 6 m² – 14 m²

                           = 65 m²

Cost of painting per m² = Rs 5.60

Cost of painting for 65 m² = 5.60 × 65

                                            = 364

Hence cost of painting the 4 walls = Rs 364
