let
length = l=4m
width=b=3.2m
tiles width=w=25cm=0.25m
area of the border=l×w=4×0.25=1sq.m
remaining area of the floor=l×b=4×3.2=12sq.m

Biswajit131: but area of border is 3.35sq m and remaining floor is 9.45sq m

The area of the border is 3.35 m^2 and the area of the remaining floor is 9.45 m^2 .

  • Total area of the floor = 4 * 3.2 m^2 = 12.8 m^2
  • Total area of the border = 2 (length of floor * 0.25) + 2 [(width of floor - 0.50) * 0.25]

                  = 2 (4*0.25) + 2 (2.7*0.25)

                  = 3.35 m^2

  • Remaining area of the floor = (total area of floor) - (total area og the border)

            = 12.8 - 3.35 m^2

            = 9.45 m^2
