Step-by-step explanation :

Length of the Room = 7m

Width of the Room = 5m

Area of the Room = Length * Width

                              = 7m * 5m

                              = 35 sq. m

Area of the Rug = 16 sq. m

Area left in the Room = Area of the Room - Area of the Rug

                                    = 35 sq. m - 16 sq. m

                                    = 19 sq. m

Therefore, 19 sq. m of area was left in the room and was not covered by the rug.
