A sample has a mass of 0.04g and a volume of 143 ml. is it most likely to be a ....

  1. a solid
  2. a liquid
  3. gas
  4. none of the above
  5. all of the above

solution : let see density of the sample

density = mass of the sample/volume of the sample

= 0.04g/143ml

= (0.04/143) g/ml

= 0.000279 g/cm³ [ as 1 ml = 1 cm³ ]

here you see density of the sample is very low compare to liquid gasoline (0.7 g/cm³ , it is one of the lowest dense liquid ).

we know, only gas has lower density than liquid.

Therefore the sample must be a gas. i.e., option (2) a liquid, is correct.
