Answer:

It all started with the costing of the sarees. It use to be 5 meters at the start. For example; Economy synthetic sarees which are less than Rs 200 comes with 5 to 5.25 Meters. Mid-range above Rs 200 and above, saree total length comes to 6 Meters which includes blouse piece material. Which means 70 cms saree panna can be blouse then saree length becomes 5.3 meters.

To make it simple for better understanding.

Saree range Rs 100 to Rs 200 -> Usually 5 meters to 5.25 meters.

The Saree range above Rs 200 to any price range -> 5.50 meters in length. If comes with blouse piece then saree length comes to 6 meters to 6,2 meters. Here you need to be very careful when cutting the blouse material from the saree. If the saree with blouse comes to 6 Meters then if you remove the blouse material then saree will become 5.3 meters which are sufficient, but some argue that they need more frills. In this case, if blouse material comes inside saree not on the pallu side, do not take the material out so that saree becomes 6 meters.

For sarees with 6.20 meters, it is better to cut out the blouse material as saree length will be around 5.5 meters. If you do not remove the blouse material then saree will be very lengthy…. not a good idea, though.

For sarees with 7 to 8 meters, earlier generations few selective ones did not use petticoat or the way saree is draped, it required 7 to 8 meters.

In my opinion, 5.50 meters is the right length of the saree. minus or plus all depends on the price or blouse pieces attached to it.
