A saturated and an unsaturated hydrocarbons are taken in two different spatula and burnt in the bunsen flame by keeping a metal plate above the flam. (a) indicate the colour of the flame produced in these two cases. (b) In which of the two hydrocarbons will you observ any sooty deposit on the metal plate and why ?

b) Sooty deposit is observed on metal plate in case of unsaturated hydrocarbon because of incomplete combustion.....

Unsaturated hydrocarbon can be converted to saturated hydrocarbon with the process called as Addition reaction.In this reaction unsaturated hydrocarbon is treated with a catalyst nickel in presence of hydrogen to convert it to saturated form.
