Solution is as follows-:


Let the total  marks  be x

then ,

CASE A
pass percentage would be=30% of x +15[+15 cause a got failed by 15 marks]

CASE B
pass percentage would be=40% of x-35[-35 cause he got 35 more than pass percentage]

ON equating[since both are pass percentage]

=>3x/10 +15=4x/10-35
on solving we get
=> x/10=50
=> x=500;=TOTAL MARKS 

SUBSTITUTING THE VALUE OF X=500 in case A [30% of x +15]

 
 we get,

=3/10*500+15
=165[Passing marks]

Pass percentage
=165/500*100=33%

SO, the pass percentage will be 33%
