A screw gauge has a pitch of 1.0 mm and 200 divisions on a circular scale. Do you think it is possible to increase the accuracy of the screw gauge arbitrarily by increasing the number of divisions on the circular scale?

Hey dear,

# Answer - Yes, to certain extent

## Explaination-
# Given-
Pitch of screw gauge = 1 mm
Number of divisions on circular scale = 200

# Solution-
We learnt that,
Least count = pitch/divisions
So increasing no of divisions will decrease least count of the instrument that in turn leads to improvement in accuracy.

But this will increase accuracy of screw gauge to a certain extent only.

Hope this helped you.
