A screw jack is to be lift a load of 50 KN through a height of 300 mm. Screw is made of steel with
allowable stresses of 109.53 MPa in tension and compression, 54.77 MPa in shear. The material for the
nut is phosphor bronze for which the allowable stress in tension is 39.43 MPa, and in shear 19.715
MPa. The bearing pressure between nut and screw is 14 Mpa. Design the screw, nut, handle by
assuming force applied on the handle is 300N and allowable bending stress as 109.53 MPa and cup.
Also check wheather the screw is selflocking. Take coefficient of friction between screw and nut
threads as 0.14 and for collar 0.147.
