A sealed tube can withstand a pressure of 3 atm is filled with air at 27°C and 760mm pressure. Find the temperature above which it will burst.

Explanation:

Applying pressure temperature relationship,

P1/T1 = P2/T2

Given data are

P1= 760 mm Hg

T1 = 273+37 = 310 K

P2 = 3 atm = 2280 mm Hg

T2 =?

Substituting in the above equation we get,

P1/T1 = P2/T2

760 mm Hg/310K = 2280 mm Hg/T2

T2 = 2280*310/760

T2 = 930 K

By converting kelvin to degree C, the value of T2 = 657 degree C
