A second coil of 300 turns is wound closely on the above toroid. If the current in the primary coil is increased from 0 to 2 A in 0.05s, obtain the induced emf in the second coil.

We have,

  • No. of turns in second coil = 300
  • Initial current = 0 A
  • Final current = 2 A
  • Time taken = 0.05 s

We know that,

  • e = -N ( ∆Φ/∆t )

Where, e = induced emf

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀N = number of loops/turns

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Φ = Change in flux

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀t = Change in time

Put all the values in formula,

  • e = -N ( ∆Φ/∆t )
  • e = -300 ( 2 - 0/0.05 )
  • e = -300 × 200/5
  • e = -300 × 40
  • e = -1200

Therefore, the induced emf is -1200 volt.
