Germination of the seed take place only and only when the seed gets proper nutrition or nourishment .... It can possible only on earth ( soil ) .....

It can also be possible if we gave the minerals and other nutrients suitable for the seed in a aqueous solution such that the seed get the proper requirement for germination....This method is called hydroponics
