As pressure is inversely proportional to surface area so a sharp knife with less surface area is easy to use for cutting purposes .However the blunt one having more surface area requires more pressure to be used to cut.

because a sharp knife has less surface area and thus when thrust is applied.... pressure increases and cuts the object easily...
