which burns with a pop sound gives back

The shiny brown element 'X' is Copper (Cu). The reaction when it is heated in air is given as :
2Cu(Brown) +O
2

(on heating) → 2CuO (black)
The black coloured substance formed is Cupric oxide (CuO)
