The angle of depression is 76°

Given:

A ship is at a distance of 200m from the tall tower.

To find:

What is the angle of depression of the ship found by a man if he climbed 50m up the tower

Solution:

The distance between the boat and the foot of the tower is 200 m

The distance that the man climbed = 50 m

We can represent the whole scenario in right angle triangle [ as given in the picture below ]

From the right angle triangle,

=> Tan B = Opposite side/ Adjacent side = 50/200

=> Tan B = 1/4

=> Tan B = Tan 14.03° ≅ Tan 14°

=> Angle B = 14°

As we know

=> ∠A + ∠B + ∠C = 180°    [ Sum of the angles in triangle ]

=> ∠A + 14° + 90° = 180°

=> ∠A = 180° - 104°

=> ∠A = 76°

Therefore,

The angle of depression is 76°
