Solution:

Cost of a pair of trousers = 1150

Cost if there is 20% off

 =  ₹ \: (1150 - ( \frac{20}{100}  \times 1150)) \\  = ₹ \: (1150 -  \frac{23000}{100})  \\  = ₹ \: (1150 -  230)  \\  = ₹ \: 920

Cost if there is 200 off

 = ₹ \: (1150 - 200) \\  = ₹ \: 950

The 20% off offer is better.

Money that would be saved by purchasing trousers at the better offer

 = ₹ \: 230

230 would be saved by purchasing trousers at the better offer.

Answer:

For a pair of jeans

Marked price =Rs.1450

Discount =10% of Rs.1450

=

100

10

×1450

=Rs.145

∴ Sale price =1450−145

=Rs.1305

For two shirts

Marked price =(Rs.850)×2=Rs.1700

Discount =10% of Rs.1700

=

100

10

×1700

=Rs.170

∴ Sale price =1700−170

=Rs.1530

Total sale price =1305+1530

=Rs.2835

Thus, the customer would have to pay Rs.2835
