Given:

A shopkeeper allows 10% discount and still gains 8%

To find:

The actual cost of the sofa if it is marked at rupees 6000

Solution:

The marked price of the sofa = Rs. 6000

Discount% = 10%

We know the formula as:

\boxed{\bold{S.P. = M.P. - [\frac{Discount}{100} \times  M.P.]}}

Substituting the values in the formula above, we get

∴ S.P. of the sofa = 6000 - [\frac{10}{100} \times 6000] = 6000 - 600 = Rs.\:5400

Gain% = 8%

Also, we know the formula as:

\boxed{\bold{C.P. = \frac{100}{100+G\%}\timesS.P.  }}

Substituting the values in the formula above, we get

∴ C.P. of the sofa = \frac{100}{100+8} \times 5400 = \frac{100}{108} \times 5400 = 100\times 50=Rs. \:5000

Thus, the actual cost of the sofa is → Rs. 5000.
