Step-by-step explanation:

Given A shopkeeper bought 120 quintals of wheat. 20% of it was sold at 25% loss. At what percent gain should he sell the rest to gain 25% on the whole transaction?

  • Let the cost price of 120 quintals of wheat be Rs 1000
  • So cost of 1 quintal of wheat will be 1000 / 120 = Rs 8.33
  • 20% was sold,so selling price of wheat will be = 120 x 20/100 x 3/4 x 8.33
  •                                                                          = 149.99 ≅ 150
  • To obtain profit of 25% selling price of 120 quintals
  •                                                                          = 1000 x 1.25
  •                                                                            = 1250
  • Now selling price of remaining wheat = 120 – 24
  •                                                                 = 96 quintal
  •                                                               = 1250 – 150 = 11000
  • Cost price of 96 quintal will be 96 x 8.33 = 799.68

Now percentage gain = 1100 – 799.68 / 799.68 x 100

                                 = 37.5%
