Answers
Given:
A shopkeeper bought 396 custard apples for rs 12 per dozen
He sold30 dozens for a rs 20 per dozen and rest at rs 10 per dozen
To find:
His loss or profit
Solution:
We know,
Finding the cost price of apples bought by the shopkeeper:
The shopkeeper had bought 396 apples for Rs. 12 per dozen
So we can say,
If the cost price of 12 custard apples = Rs. 12
Then the cost price of 396 custard apples = = Rs. 396
Finding the total selling price of apples sold by the shopkeeper:
The shopkeeper had 30 dozens i.e., 30 × 12 = 360 custard apples for Rs. 20 per dozen
So we can say,
If the selling price of 12 custard apples = Rs. 20
Then the selling price of 360 custard apples = = Rs. 600
Remaining no. of custard apples to be sold = 396 - 360 = 36
So,
If the selling price of 12 custard apples = Rs. 10
Then the selling price of 36 custard apples = = Rs. 30
∴ The total selling price of 396 custard apples = Rs. 600 + Rs. 30 = Rs. 630
Finding the profit or loss of the shopkeeper:
From the above calculations, we can say that the shopkeeper will make a profit since the S.P. > C.P.
∴ Profit = S.P. - C.P. = 630 - 396 = Rs. 234
∴ The profit percentage is,
=
=
=
≈
Thus, the shopkeeper makes a profit of 60% in the process of the transaction.
