A total of ₹ 843.50 is needed to be paid to the shopkeeper for 1750 pages.

Given:

The charge to print a sheet of paper is ₹ 0.50

After page 500, the shopkeeper gives a 5% discount.

To Find:

The amount needed to be paid for 1750 pages.

Solution:

Here, in this question, we need to divide 1750 pages into two parts.

One part will have 500 pages with the cost of ₹ 0.50 per page.

Therefore,

The total cost of 500 pages

= ₹ (500 × 0.50)

= ₹ 250 → [1]

Now,

The rest pages i.e, (1750 - 500) = 1250 pages will have the cost of ₹ 0.50.

Thus,

The total cost of 1250 pages  (in general)

= ₹ (1250 × 0.50)

= ₹ 625

But, there is a discount of 5 % for the second part of the pages, i.e,

the discount amount for 1250 pages will be,

₹ (625 × (5/100))

₹ 31.25

Now, the total cost of 1250 pages becomes,

₹ (625 - 31.25)

= ₹ 593.75 → [2]

Ultimately summing the cost of 500 and 1250 pages will give us the cost of 1750 pages.

So the total cost of 1750 pages by adding [1] and [2] becomes;

₹ (250 + 593.75)

= ₹ 843.75

Thus the total cost of 1750 pages is ₹ 843.50
