Profit from 1 pen = Rs 1

Loss from one Pencil = Rs 0.40

Find the profit from the 70 pens:

Number of pen sold = 70

Profit made from the 70 pens = 70 x 1 = Rs 70

Find the number of pencils sold

Since he did not make any profit

⇒ His loss must be Rs 70

Loss from 1 pencil = $0.40

Number of pencil sold = 70 ÷ 0.40 = 175

Answer:He sold 175 pencils.
