Answer:

a. profit with (+) and loss with (-).

b. number of pencil:- 14

number of erasers:- 20

c.

Step-by-step explanation:

Profit earned by selling one pen = Rs 2 .. Profit earned by selling 10 pens = Rs 2 × 10

= Rs 20

Profit is denoted by' +' sign.

.. Profit earned by selling 10 pens = + Rs 20 Number of pencils and erasers sold are in the ratio 7:10

.. Let the number of pencils sold be 7x and that of erasers be 10x Loss incurred on one pencil = 50 paise = Rs 0.50

.. Loss incurred on 7x pencils = 0.50×7x

= Rs 3.5x

Loss is denoted by'-'sign,

:. Loss incurred on 7x pencils - Rs 3.5x

Loss incurred on 1 eraser 15 paise = Rs 0.15

... Loss incurred on 10x erasers = Rs 0.15x10x

= Rs 1.5x

Total profit earned by the shopkeeper = + Rs 10

= Rs 1.5x

Profit earned + Loss incurred Total profit

.. 20 + (- 3.5x - 1.5x) = 1t

20 + (- 5x) = 10

- 5x = 10 - 20

. - 5x = - 10

- 10 -5 .. X = = 2

.. Number of pencils sold = 7x2 = 14

Number of erasers sold = 10× 2 = 20
