A shopkeeper had some pens. A customer bought 10% of the pens, then another bought 20% of the remaining, and the last customer purchased 25% of the remaining pens.

If the shopkeeper is left with 270 pens in his shop, how many pens were there initially in his shop?

If the shop keeper has 500 pens then 10% of 500 is 50 pens           =10/100*500          =50  Then the left over pens    are 450 (500-50) So the 20% of 450 pens is 90 pens           =20/100*450          =90 After substracting 90 pens from 450 we are left with 360 pens , so 25%of 360 is 90 , as ...          =25/100*360          =90  Then finally the shop keeper is left with 500 - 50 -90 -90 =270 pens    Like this answer if you get any help or ask for another method Thanx
