total eggs=x
broken 5%
5% of x = 5/100*x=x/20;
total=x-x/20=>19x/20;
acc. to qu..
7% of 19x/20 =266
on solving eqn you get 4000

The shopkeeper has originally 4000 eggs.

  • Let the number of eggs the shopkeeper originally has be x.
  • 5% of the eggs are broken that is 0.05x are broken.
  • The remaining eggs left are x-0.05x = 0.95x.
  • Now he sells 93% of the remaining eggs.
  • That means remaining eggs left with the shopkeeper which are unsold are 7%.
  • 7% of 0.95x eggs is equal to 266.

0.07 × 0.95x = 266

x = 4000

  • The total number of eggs with the shopkeeper are 4000.
