Given :-

  • Initial Quantity of Apple juice = 18 litre.
  • Initial Quantity of Orange juice = 80 litre.
  • He sells half of the mixture.
  • Added quantity of apple juice and orange juice to the vessel in the ratio 2:1.
  • New ratio of orange juice and apple juice in the vessel is 4:1 .

Solution :-

from Given data ,

→ initial Apple juice : initial orange juice = 18 : 80 = 9 : 40 .

Now, shopkeeper sells half the mixture.

So,

→ He sells = (18 + 80)/2 = 49 litre .

Than,

→ Left Mixture in vessel = 49 litre.

So,

→ in left 49 litre , apple = 9 litre and orange = 40 litre . { 9 : 40 } .

Now, let us assume that shopkeeper added 2x litre of apple juice and x litre of orange juice .

Given that, now ratio of orange juice and apple juice in the vessel is 4:1 .

A/q,

→ (9 + 2x) / (40 + x) = 1/4

→ 4(9 + 2x) = 40 + x

→ 36 + 8x = 40 + x

→ 8x - x = 40 - 36

→ 7x = 4

→ x = (4/7) litre . (Ans.)

Hence, Quantity of orange juice added is (4/7) litre.
