Discounted price at which item is sold = Rs {300- (20% * 300)} = Rs 240

Profit = 20%

{(SP-CP)/CP} *100 = Profit %

=> {(240-x)/x}*100 =20

=> 240-x= (20/100) *x

=>240-x= (x/5)

=>5 *(240-x) = x

=> 1200-5x = x

Or 6x =1200

x= RS 200

So the cost price of the item is Rs 200
