If he buys an article for 100 and sells at 120,then he gains 20%.

So, If he sells for 840 he gains 20%,

C.P.=100/120×840

=700 C.P.

Next..

Suppose if he buys an article for 100 and sells for 96, he loses 4%.

So, If he sells for 960 and lose 4%,

C.P.=100/96×960

=1000 C.P.

Now, Total C.P. should be

=1000+700=1700

S.P.=840+960=1800

So, Profit

P=SP-CP

=1800-1700

=100 P

Now,P%

=P/CP×100

=100/1700×100
