carbon is the most versatile element because it is make a variety of compounds .we depend on Carbon compound for structural ,chemical and energetic functions there are so many ways of catenation: straight chain ,branched chain cyclic or closed or ring chain .types of bonds :there are many types of bonds which are found among elements : ionic bond, covalent bonds ,co-ordinate covalent bonds ,hydrogen bonds .types of covalent bonds :single covalent bond and covalent bond . Hydrocarbons are compound of carbon and hydrogen. two types of hydrocarbons: saturated and unsaturated or we can see alkanes, alkenes and alkynes. alkanes are sometimes referred as parrafines (Latin parrum affinis means little affinity). general formula of saturated carbon Cn H2n + 2. these are single wanted compounds the names of the compounds and with suffix am if you put an is equal to one two three four five six in the general Formula cnh 2 and + 2 then you will find a series of hydrocarbon. ch4 -methane,c2h6-ethane,c3h8-propane,c4h10-butane ,c5h12-pentane,c6h6-hexane. no alcohol group the formula of Methane is ch4 and if you remove one hydrogen from it the leftover compound is Ch3 and it is called methyl group. in this way other members of alkyl group are formed by removal of one hydrogen from Alkane series now homologous series - are homologous series is a group of organic compound having similar structure of and chemical properties where the successive compounds differ by Ch2 example chemical formula of Methane ch4 and that of Ethane is she has to exit the two consecutive number differ by 1 carbon atoms and 2hydrogen atom that is by Ch2. features of homologousseries our first all the members of series can be represented by same general formula CMH to and plus two second two adjacent members of the series differ by 1 carbon atoms and to hydrogen atom that is cH 2 IUPAC name rules for IUPAC name as follows first the number of carbon atom are identified and ur name according to the length of the carbon chain second unsaturated hydrocarbon that is alkane containing single bond between two carbon is name by adding suffix in after the word root in case of branched chain saturated hydrocarbon the longest chain of hydrocarbon is identified and this is called parent hydrocarbon. characteristics of isomers first of all we have to understand what are isomers so in the study of organic compound we can across many cases when two or more compounds are made of equal number of like atoms two or more compounds that have the same molecular formula but different structure are called isomers in Greek ISO means equal and mer means part there are 18 noon compound having the same formula 68 at 18 each of these has its characteristics of the boiling point. only this l remember.hope it is clear.
