Short Summer holiday at Amritsar and Kashmir
It was a pleasant surprise for my brother and me when dad said that we were going on a short holiday the day after. As dad had a lot of work in office, he was telling mom that we might have to forgo our usual summer trip. So, this was a big surprise and we couldn’t believe it when he said we were going to Amritsar and Kashmir.
We did our packing very enthusiastically and looked forward to the trip. We boarded the train from Delhi and reached Amritsar.
After breakfast, we visited the famous Golden Temple. Oh! What a sight it was! Magnificent beauty at its peak. We had our lunch at the temple and it was delicious.
We then visited the famous Wagah border and just loved it. Somehow once you reach the spot, you immediately feel proud of your country.
It brings about serenity in you. The next day we left for Srinagar. We visited the Mughal Gardens, 'Nishat Bagh, Shalimar Bagh' and the famous Tulip gardens at the foothills of the 'Zabarwan mountains'.
We enjoyed the beauty of the Dal Lake and stayed in a houseboat. It was a great experience. The next day we had a full-day tour of Gulmarg and saw amazing sceneries. We returned to the houseboat tired and rested well.
The next day we toured Pehalgam where we visited the famous saffron fields. We shopped for Kashmiri shawls and mom bought a few Kashmiri silk sarees and other knick-knacks.
After that, we returned to the houseboat and left the next day early morning by road to Jammu where we boarded our flight. This trip was a very memorable one.
