Momentum of bullet or shot=Momentum of gun

Mass of bullet x Velocity of bullet=Mass of gun x Recoil velocity of gun

1x 1000=1000 x Recoil velocity

Recoil velocity=1m/s

To calculate the force required to stop the gun,

we have u=recoil velocity =1m/s,

v=0 and s=0.25m

By using,

the picture mentioned above we get .....

shot weight (m) = 1 Kg
gun weight (M) = 5 Ton = 5000 Kg
velocity of shot (u)= 1000 m/s
velocity of gun = V
use, Law of conservation of Linear momentum ,
initial momentum = mu = 1× 1000 = 1000
final momentum = MV = 5000 × V
initial momentum= final momentum
1000 = 5000V
V = 0.2 m/s
now ,
initial velocity of gun = 0.2 m/s
final velocity of gun = 0
so, use formula ,
v² = u² + 2aS
0 = (0.2)² + 2 × 0.25 × a
0.04 = -0.5 × a
a = - 0.08 m/s²
here negative sign indicate stoping force occur
so, Force required to stop gun = Ma
= 0.08 × 5000 N
= 400 N
